Preparation and Structural Characterization of Tea Tree Oil Microcapsules
To solve the problems of poor stability, high sensitivity to light, heat, oxygen, and humidity, and vigorous volatility of tea tree oils, microcapsules were prepared via a composite coagulation method to improve the stability of tea tree oils. The preparation process of tea tree oil microcapsules by the composite coagulation method was optimized. The effects of different homogenization times, homogenization speeds,pH values, and coagulation times on the emulsification effect of tea tree oil emulsions, and the micro-morphology of microcapsules were explored, and the embedding characteristics and slow-release properties of the microcapsules were clarified. The results showed that the preparation conditions of tea tree oil emulsion were prepared at 20 000 r/min for 15 min, with a gelatin-sodium hexametaphosphate composite coacervate used as the wall material. The composite coagulation pH of the tea tree oil microcapsules was 4.37,the morphology was uniform, the particle diameter ranged from 0.8-1.32 μm,the embedding rate was(44.75±0.09)%,and the sustained release performance was 65.13%.This study provides necessary data for the preparation of tea tree oil microcapsules.
