Application of Pruning and Rejuvenation Technology in Bougainvillea for Bridge Greening in Guangzhou
This article discusses the effects of the aging of Bougainvillea branches, empty stems, and excessive crown width in bridge greening in Guangzhou city.To address these issues and ensure the overall landscape effect of bridge greening, the Guangzhou Institute of Forestry and Landscape Architecture conducted moderate and severe pruning on Bougainvillea planted on prime thoroughfares in Guangzhou from March to April 2020.In this study, data from unpruned and pruned bridges were collected for comparison, and the atat included the flowering period and cold resistance. The results show that after pruning and rejuvenation, the flowering period of Bougainvillea on bridges is delayed by approximately 15 days compared with that on unpruned bridges, and the cold resistance and overall landscape effect of the plants are significantly better than those before pruning. These findings indicate that heavy(moderate)pruning can regulate the flowering period of Bougainvillea and im-prove its cold resistance, providing powerful guidance for bridge greening maintenance.
