Research progress on the dysfunction of the blood-brain barrier by Angiostrongylus cantonensis
The blood-brain barrier strictly controls the material exchange between cerebral vessels and brain tissue to maintain the homeostasis of the central nervous system microenvironment.Angiostrongylosis is a serious zoonosis caused by the infection of the third-stage larvae of Angiostrongylus cantonensis. The larvae cross the blood-brain barrier and grow in the brain, leading to eosinophilic encephalitis and meningoencephalitis. This paper reviews the mechanism of blood-brain barrier damage caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection to provide a theoretical basis for preventing and treating angiostrongylosis.
