Basic characteristics and trend of newly diagnosed students aged 15-24 years with HIV/AIDS in Shandong province,2011-2020
Objective To analyze the basic characteristics and epidemic trend of newly diagnosed students aged 15-24 years old with HIV/AIDS in Shandong province from 2011 to 2020,and provide evidence for AIDS prevention and control among young students in schools.Methods Newly reported HIV/AIDS cases among students of aged 15-24 years old in Shandong province from 2011 to 2020 were used to analyze their socio-demographic characteristics,transmission routes,sample sources,first CD4 testing and sexual behavior,and to analyze the temporal trends of reported incidence rates over time using Joinpoint regression models.Results From 2011 to 2020,a total of 1 035 new HIV infection cases were diagnosed among young students aged 15-24 years old in Shandong province,mainly were males(99.30%),with tertiary education and above(83.96%),infected by homosexual transmission(92.08%),and 61.54%were diagnosed through testing and counseling.The detection rate showed an increasing trend(APC=41.28%,P<0.05)from 2011 to 2015,and a stable trend between 2016 and 2020(APC=-0.33%,P>0.05).The proportion of newly reported HIV/AIDS with a first CD4 cell count of 500-cells/μL had been decreasing over the years(x2=7.19,P<0.05).Conclusion The overall rising trend of HIV/AIDS among young students in Shandong province from 2011 to 2020 had slowed down,and the population of young students men who had sex with men(MSM)was a key population for HIV infection,and health education and behavioral interventions should be strengthened based on expanded testing and counseling.
