The influencing factors of latent tuberculosis infection among high school freshmen in Shanxi province
Objective To understand the factors affecting latent tuberculosis(TB)infection in new senior students and provide a basis for developing school-based tuberculosis control measures. Methods In September 2021,a questionnaire survey, purified protein derivative(PPD)skin test, and chest X-ray results were used to determine the latent tuberculosis infection in grade 2021 freshmen in Shanxi province. The effects of gender, age, lifestyle, and other factors on latent TB infection in high school students were analyzed. The chi-square test and logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. Results A total of 12 908 freshmen aged 14-18 years old from 19 high schools in Shanxi province were included in the study, and 102 cases(0.79%)were strongly positive in the PPD test. The latent infection rate of 102 patients was 0.79%.Chest radiographs showed no active pulmonary tuberculosis.Gender, alcohol consumption, chronic disease, history of tuberculosis, immediate family history of tuberculosis, close contact history, immune system disease, preventive treatment of tuberculosis, and suspicious symptoms of tuberculosis were statistically associated with latent tuberculosis infection(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that alcohol consumption(OR=1.741,95%CI=1.005-3.014),chronic disease(OR=2.319,95%CI=1.453-3.702),and suspicious symptoms of tuberculosis(OR=100.374,95%CI=54.463-184.985)were the influencing factors of latent tuberculosis infection in high school freshmen. Conclusions The latent infection rate of TB among students in the Shanxi province was low.Drinking, chronic disease, and suspicious symptoms of TB were all related to latent infections of TB.More attention should be paid to these students and improve their health literacy.
