Morphological identification and research status of Haemolaelaps glasgowi
As one of the common species of gamasid mites,Haemolaelaps glasgowi is often found on the body surface of rodents and other small mammals. In zoological taxonomy,Haemolaelaps glasgowi belongs to the genus Haemolaelaps, subfamily Laelapinae and family Laelapidae in the superfamily Dermanyssoidea. The taxonomic identification of the mite is mainly based on the morphology of its female adults, and the characteristic pilus dentilis is one of key morphological features.Haemolaelaps glasgowi is a widely distributed species all over the world, with a wide host range and low host specificity.Besides causing gamasidosis(gamasid dermatitis)through the biting activity,Haemolaelaps glasgowi can be the transmitting vector and reservoir host of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and other zoonoses, which is of great medical significance.Based on available literatures retrieved, the present paper reviewed its taxonomic position, morphological characteristics and key points of identification, life cycle and ecological behaviors, chromosome karyotype, ultrastructure, and its relationship with diseases, etc.
