Hearing impairment caused by Streptococcus suis infection:A case report and literature review
Objective To report the clinical manifestations,diagnosis and treatment of a case of human Streptococcus suis(S.S)purulent meningitis complicated with bilateral severe mixed hearing impairment,and improve the prognosis of the patient,and provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of the disease.Method The clinical manifestations,etiological examination,diagnosis and treatment process and complications of a case of Streptococcus suis purulent meningitis were analyzed,and the relevant literature was reviewed.Results The patient was a middle-aged man with fever,chills and headache.Acute onset and rapid progression.The patient was admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University on November 13,2021.And was diagnosed as suppurative meningitis,sepsis and sudden mixed hearing impairment.After active treatment,the patient's condition improved and discharged,but still left severe mixed hearing impairment and perforation of left tympanic membrane.Conclusions The onset of human infection with Streptococcus suis disease was sudden and the progressed rapidly.Early diagnosis and active symptomatic treatment of sufficient dexamethasone combined with sensitive antibiotics might be an effective method to treat human infection with Streptococcus suis purulent meningitis.
