Detection of fecal parasites in patients in a hospital in Guangzhou
Objective To analyze the detection of parasites in routine fecal examination in a hospital in Guangzhou,and provide reference for the detection of fecal parasites and the prevention and treatment of intestinal parasitic diseases.Method The fecal samples of patients in Guangdong Provincial Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January to December 2023 were collected,and the routine detection was performed by the Wowente FA280 automatic fecal analyzer,and the detection of parasites and infection rate were analyzed.Results A total of 24 547 stool samples were collected for helminth examination,including 11 754 males and 12 793 females,with an average age of(63.85±17.48)years old.A total of 1 043 cases of 5 kinds of parasites were detected,and the total infection rate were 4.25%,including 4.15%for Clonorchis sinensis,0.05%for hookworm,0.03%for Blastocystis hominis,0.01%for Strongyloides stercoralis,and 0.01%for pinworm.One case was found to be co-infected with Clonorchis sinensis and hookworm.The infection rate of Clonorchis sinensis was the highest,with a male-to-female ratio of 6.45%to 2.03%,which was statistically significant(x2=299.47,P<0.01).The infection rate increased with age,with the higher rate in the 40~<50-year-old age group,but began to decline after age 70.The male-to-female ratio of hookworm infection was higher(0.09%vs.0.02%),and all Strongyloides stercoralis infections were found in elderly male patients.Strongyloides stercoralis infections were found only in adults,and pinworm infections were found only in children<6 years of age;no roundworms,whipworms or other intestinal parasites detected.Clonorchis sinensis infections were mainly from patients in the internal medicine departments,with oncology 6.96%,nephrology 6.22%,endocrinology 5.73%,and gastroenterology 5.54%as the leading departments.Conclusion The prevalence of helminth infections in Guangzhou cannot be ignored,and Clonorchis sinensis remains the main human intestinal parasite in Guangzhou,requiring strengthened control measures.
