Research progress on the relationship between Toxoplasma gondii and gynecological malignant tumor and its anti-tumor mechanism
At present, cancer has become a major global medical challenge, and its complexity, especially the characteristics of highly variable and low maturity tumors, make traditional treatment strategies such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery facing severe challenges.Chemotherapy drugs are often difficult to accumulate effectively in the tumor site, and easily lead to drug resistance in the body;the effect of radiotherapy on cells in hypoxic tumor areas is limited. However, surgical resection is difficult to eradicate cancer cells that have metastasized far away.In view of this, researchers are actively exploring and developing novel anti-tumor therapies.Toxoplasma gondii is a common opportunistic pathogenic parasite in humans and animals. It has attracted much attention for causing widespread parasitic diseases. However, people's understanding of Toxoplasma gondii is no longer limited to its pathogenicity, but also found that there is a close relationship between Toxoplasma gondii and cancer, not only can activate the immune response against tumors, but also can reshape the tumor microenvironment, inhibit tumor proliferation and induce cancer cell apoptosis. In addition, epidemiological data show that the infection rate of Toxoplasma gondii in patients with malignant tumors is significantly higher than that in the general population, which provides a new perspective for exploring the potential role of Toxoplasma gondii in gynecological malignant tumors. This paper aims to review the latest research on the relationship between Toxoplasma gondii and gynecological malignancies, explore its mechanism as an anti-tumor immunomodulator, and how to use Toxoplasma gondii or its components as innovative anticancer means.Through this perspective,we hope to open up new ways to understand the role of Toxoplasma in tumor immunology and provide scientific basis for future cancer treatment strategies.
