Research on the mix design method of waterborne epoxy emulsified asphalt mixture
The emulsified asphalt mixture, due to its strength formation mechanism, has low early strength and poor water stability, making it difficult to apply to asphalt pavement surface layers. The influence of water-based epoxy content on the bonding performance of emulsified asphalt was analyzed using Brinell viscosity test and pull-out test, and the mix design method considering the water stability of emulsified asphalt mixture was studied in this paper. The results showed that the addition of waterborne epoxy could significantly improve the bonding performance of emulsified asphalt, but considering cost and performance factors, the recommended mass fraction for adding waterborne epoxy was 15%.Incorporating two indicators, immersion Marshall stability and flying loss rate into the mix design process of the mixture could effectively prevent early water damage of water-based epoxy emulsified asphalt mixture, enabling its various performance to reach or even surpass the technical level of hot mix modified asphalt mixture, and could be fully used for high-grade highway asphalt pavement surface.
