Analysis of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine with Active Deflection Flap
In order to improve the low efficiency and difficulty of self-starting of vertical axis wind tur-bines,an active deflection flap structure that opens in the windward area and closes in the leeward area was proposed.Based on NACA0021,the instantaneous torque, wind energy utilization coefficient,aver-age tangential force and pressure field of blades of vertical axis wind turbine with deflection flaps were nu-merically analyzed by computational fluid dynamics method. The results show that the deflection flap structure can increase the blade surface pressure difference, increase the blade torque, and improve the wind energy utilization coefficient of the vertical axis wind turbine in the range of low blade tip speed rati-o;when the blade tip velocity ratio is 2.50 and the horizontal length of the flap is 0.4c,the wind energy utilization coefficient of the vertical axis wind turbine with active deflection flap is 13.9%higher than that of the original vertical axis wind turbine at most.
