A detection method of lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium in powder form raw materials used for cosmetics was established by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry with wet digestion method as the sample pretreatment. Comparison of spiked recoveries of wet digestion method and dry calcination method showed that the wet digestion method is more suitable for sample preparation. Under the optimized conditions, the linearity range of lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium are 0 - 16. 0,0 - 1. 6,0 - 16. 0 and 0 - 1. 6 μg / L respectively. The correlation coefficients (R2 )are from 0. 993 5 to 0. 999 7;the detection limits are from 0. 036 to 0. 768 μg / L;the spiked recoveries are from 81. 0% to 93. 0% . The method is sensitive, accurate and precise for the detection of heavy metals and has been successfully applied to detect lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium in 10 kinds of powder form raw material used for preparation of cosmetics.
