Calculation and assessment of chemical footprint of cotton stretch fabric
In order to investigate the environmental burdens of chemical use and emissions during textile dyeing and finishing process, based on the chemical footprint theory, the USEtox model was applied to quantify and evaluate the chemical footprint of cotton stretch fabric dyeing and finishing process. The results showed that the ecological toxicity of chem-ical pollutants generated in the process of dyeing and finishing 1 kg of cotton stretch fabric was 1.66×104 PAF∙m3∙day.The chemical footprint of the pretreatment process was the largest, reaching 1.56×104 PAF∙m3∙day,followed by the dyeing process and the finishing process.Among the liquid chemical pollutants, the greatest chemical footprint is caused by sodi-um hydroxide, followed by sodium silicate and hydrogen peroxide.Among the gaseous chemical pollutants,SO2 caused the largest chemical footprint, followed by NO and NO2.
