An exploration of the artistic techniques of the thousand gold tapestries of the Mawangdui Han Tomb
The"thousand gold tapestries"is a decorative tape unearthed in the Mawangdui Han Tomb in Hunan Province, which is first discovered as a high-end silk fabric decorated and patterned with text, combined with exquisite weaving techniques, and possessing both artistic and technical qualities.By analysing the artistic value and meaning behind the graphic patterns and the organisational structure of the tapestries,it can be concluded that the decorative patterns woven on the tapestries inherited the legacy of the Chu state and the Taoist ideology, and they are double-layered tapestries with a plain, regionalised pocket organisational structure woven using the method of surface and inner layer exchange. In the study of the artistic value and weaving process of this complex craft, the charm of traditional Chinese culture will be inherited and carried forward, and the modern design will be inspired by the idea and production process.
