Localization of Digital Interfaces:Transcending Language in Cross-cultural Design
With the advancement of information globalization, digital interfaces need to carry out effective localization designs oriented towards diverse global cultural groups,in order to meet the demands of multifaceted cultural users. From a cross-cultural perspective, digital interface localization design faces many di-lemmas including standardization may overlook the value of cultural variation, production efficiency may undermine design innovation and surface neutral choices may contain implicit cultural biases. To analyze this range of problems, this study employs Marshall McLuhan's theory of media ecology which focuses on how dif-ferent media environments adapt towards multifaceted cultures, emphasizing the dynamic adaptability of cultural differences.By depicting the cultural dilemmas in digital interface localization,it aims to provoke reflections on the ethical dimensions of digital interface design and bring to light embedded sociocultural politics, thereby expanding and enriching the application value of McLuhan's theory in digital contexts.
