Transplantation and Reconstruction:A Study on the Combination of Eleven-faced Avalokitesvara Statue on the East Wall of Mogao Cave 331
There is a painting about Buddha in preaching which depicting two Eleven-faced Avalokitesvara as the Attendant Bodhisattva,on the north side of the east wall in Mogao Cave 331.Through analysis,it can be seen that the combination of statues is based on the reference to the"Great Tang Shanyeni"un-earthed in Chang'an and other relevant Tang Chang'an style Buddhist statues. Its creation period is roughly from the second year of the Chuigong(686)to the first year of the Shengli(698).Cave 331,332 and 148 are the caves carved by the Li family in Dunhuang. They are not only the representative caves in Dunhuang grottoes in the early Tang Dynasty, but also a large number of statues related to Tang Chang'an.It shows that the caves deeply influenced by Tang Chang'an's Bud-dhist thought and art, they are a group of caves built under the influence of Tang Chang'an's fashion.
