Three Dimensions of Handicraft Research:A Perspective Based on Body Sense
The production and consumption practices of handicrafts are full of sensory experiences and bodily sensations and are deeply shaped by society and culture.Aiming at the multiple sensory experiences in the inheritance of handicrafts, from the perspective of bodily sense,we try to put forward the three di-mensions of perception(acquiring skills),realization(practicing skills),and transformation(experiencing skills)as an analytical framework.Firstly,in the perception dimension,it is the process of craftsmen perceiving body skills through physical practice, which embodies the development of body skills in the interaction between people and objects;secondly,in the realization dimension, the craftsmen gain the experience of laboring with fellow craftsmen, which is the process of using body objects in the context of the production practice of objects;and lastly,in the transformation dimension,in the experience of the craftsmen, the linkage and trans-formation of the experience are formed based on the first-hand experience. With these three dimensions,we try to propose a re-integrated structure for the body experience and meaning system, which has often been cut and discussed in past handicraft research.
