The alfalfa planted in the southern Xinjiang region has a slow growth rate at the seedling stage and a low survival rate due to the influence of wind and sand. The wheat-protected alfalfa seeding method is generally adopted. In order to explore an optimal planting mode with high resource utilization rate, good economic benefits and suitable for local promotion and development, this study took the main planting modes of alfalfa in southern Xinjiang as the starting point, and selected five common local alfalfa planting modes. The dry matter yield, nutritional value and economic benefit of alfalfa under different planting modes were studied. The results show:Sowing silage corn in 2020 and implementing spring wheat interplanting alfalfa planting mode(M5)in 2021 has more obvious gains in terms of total dry matter yield, crude protein content and economic benefits of alfalfa, which is suitable for local promotion.
