Behavioral Observations of Breeding Pair of Blue-Eared Pheasants
In 2007 and 2008, the behavioral characteristics of breeding pairs of blue-eared pheasants Crossoptiton auritum were studied by scan sampling in Zecha Forest, Gansu province. The results showed that foraging (34. 39% ± 1. 83% ) and guarding (29.62% ±1.93%) were the main behaviors in the male, followed by moving, resting, standing, other behaviors and driving. The female spent most of the time foraging (53.23% ±2. 19% ), followed by moving, guarding, resting, other behaviors and standing. In mutual behaviors, the male spent more time guarding than the female (P <0.01);however the male spent less time foraging and on other behaviors than female. During the day, mean distance between the male and female was (2.59 ±0.07) m (n =535), and the foraging efficiency of the female obviously higher than that of the male.
