Samples of marine free-living nematoda were collected from the coast area of Tianjin, where is being developed in a high-speed. The biodiversity of free-living nematode in this area was analyzed and the results offer information for the environmental monitoring. The results showed that more than 80 nematoda species were distinguished here, and Dorylaimop-sis rabalaisi was the most dominant species in abundance. From the analysis of biodiversity indices, the sediment quality was not as worse as people's consideration, though some stations were polluted a little. Some diversity parameters, such as Pielou's evenness, were affected by the sediment depth according to the vertical analysis of the three sediment lays. So the sampling depth of sediment should be given attention when the different results were compared or the diversity indices were used to evaluate the environmental quality.
