The Preliminary Study on Breeding Habit of Leiothrix lutea at Laojunshan Nature Reserve,Sichuan
Breeding habit of Leiothrix lutea was preliminarily studied at Laojunshan Nature Reserve of Yibin, Sichuan province, from July to August, 2011. The results showed that the nests were mainly built in Chimonobambusa quadrangu-laris (Fenzi) Makino, plants of Eurya, Rubus, Actinidia chinensis and Akebia. Ambient temperature of the nest-site was (22.01 ±0. 35)℃, the relatively humidity was 88. 30% ±0. 81% . The building materials mainly include slimsy branches, leaves, cortices and roots of several plants, muscus, plastics and so on. The average depth of nests is (54. 78±1. 14) mm, with inner diameter of (55.77±0.69) mm×(62.48±0.70) mm and outer diameter of (85. 31 ± 1. 09 ) mm±(94.00 ± 1.37) mm. The mean clutch size is 3. 125. Incubation required 12 days before the nestlings were born. Females played a major role in the incubation. Fledglings were bred for 10 ~ 12 days and the male is in charge of breeding. The breeding success rate was 75. 00% .
