Historical Distribution of Tiger in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
On the basis of relics, ancient geography, documents, field investigation and previous analysis of the ecological environment, the historical distribution of tiger (Panthera tigris) in Xinjiang was re-analyzed.The result suggested that the tiger of Xinjiang was originated from the ancient Chinese tiger (Panthera palaeosinensis) in the middle reaches of Yellow River in early Pleistocene, and became the nodes during their westering distribution;and two subspecies were formed during the distribution expansion process.
