Morphological Characteristics of the Adult and Embryonic Tylototriton ziegleri in China
In this study,to examine the adult morphology and embryonic development of Tylototriton ziegleri, field obser-vations were conducted from May to July 2022 in the Wenshan National Nature Reserve(Yunnan Province,China). The results showed that the female newts had larger overall morphometric measurement than the males. The total length of the female newts ranged from 115.50 mm to 135.42 mm,while the males ranged from 102.70 mm to 126.79 mm.The sexual dimorphism index was 0.078,indicating a significant sexual dimorphism.Various morphological parameters, including to-tal length,snout-vent length, head length, head width, snout length, and axils to span, displayed highly significant corre-lations between females and males.Additionally, trunk length, interorbital space, nasal spacing, tail length, and tail width exhibited significant differences between females and males. The embryonic development encompassed 21 stages with a total duration of 532.49 h±45.52 h.This detailed examination of T.ziegleri's morphology and embryonic develop-ment provides valuable scientific basis for the effective conservation of this species.
