Allometric Growth Model of the Larvae and Juveniles of Sinogastromyzon wui in the Xijiang River
The allometric growth of Sinogastromyzon wui from emergence to 30 days was investigated using light micros-copy and experimental ecology. The results revealed that S.wui showed allometric growth(P<0.05)by measuring the ma-jor morphological indices, such as rostrum length, eye diameter, head length, head height, body height and body length. Moreover, the head organs had a higher developmental priority compared to other body organs.Among the head organs, the rostrum length and eye diameter maintained positive allometric growth, and the growth inflection point of head length oc-curred at 12-13 days after birth, with positive allometric growth before and after the inflection point. The growth inflection point of head height occurred at 7-8 days after birth, with negative allometric growth before and positive allometricgrowth after the inflection point. In all body parts, the inflection point of body height occurred at 15-16 days after birth, and posi-tive allometric growth was maintained before and after the inflection point. The rostrum to anal length maintained isokinetic growth, while the body length maintained isokinetic growth. The early developmental stage of the head organs of S.wui prioritised to enhance the ability of predation and avoidance of natural enemies and adaptation to the external environment, and contributed to providing energy for the development of juvenile fish and the improvement of survival rate. This research can enrich the basic biological information of the developmental process of S.wui and provide theoretical support for seed-ling production and conservation of wild juvenile resources.
