White-throated laughingthrush(Pterorhinus albogularis)is a typical forest bird.Currently, there is limited ecological information available on the species. In order to deepen the understanding of this bird,a preliminary study on the breeding ecology of P.albogularis was conducted within the Xiaoyanfang area of Wumengshan National Nature Reserve(Yunnan Province)during the breeding seasons(from April to September)in 2022 and 2023.A total of 89 individuals in 20 flocks were observed, with a local population density of about 28.3 ind./km2±12.2 ind./km2.Four nests were found on Qiongzhuea tumidinoda. The nests are cup-shaped and well-concealed,with a clutch size of 3 eggs. The egg color is cyaneous.P.albogularis was found to exhibit cooperative breeding behavior, and prefers to move around in the habitats with abundant tall and large trees, high tree cover, and high total vegetation cover.Logistic regression analysis indicated that tree factors and total vegetation cover might be the key ecological factors influencing the home-range selection of this species. This study enriches the ecological and biological information of P.albogularis.
