Research on the Wildlife Damage in Hunchun Area,Jilin Province
Based on the cases of wildlife damage registered by Hunchun Forestry Bureau from 2007 to 2021,a survey was carried out to investigate the wildlife damage status in Hunchun Area,Jilin Province.The results showed that:(1)Wildlife damage in the Hunchun area of Jilin Province could be categorized into 3 types:damage to crops,damage to live-stock,and human injuries.(2)There were a total of 6 721 cases of wildlife damage,with total compensation amounting to 38 834 000 yuan.The cases of damage to crops,livestock,and human injuries accounted for 86.0%,13.8%,and 0.2%of the total,while the compensation amounts accounted for 80.0%,19.4%,and 0.6%,respectively.(3)Wildlife damage mostly occurred in autumn,making up 58.2%,with crop damage being predominant(93.8%).(4)The number of cases and compensation amounts for wildlife damage to crops showed an increase trend in the initial,followed by a de-crease over the years.The damage to livestock showed relatively small fluctuations,while the cases of human injuries were highly sporadic.Hadamen Township,Chunhua Town,and Jingxin Town,which were located within or near the Hunchun Northeast Tiger National Nature Reserve experienced more severe damages.Wildlife damage in Hunchun predominantly oc-curs in autumn and mainly involves damage to crops,often within or near the reserve.The number of cases and compensa-tion amounts for crop damage fluctuated significantly.Therefore,it is recommended to strengthen wildlife population moni-toring,alter livestock farming practices,and combine various effective control techniques during the periods and in the ar-eas of severe damage.
