Transcriptomic studies on the hypothalamus of Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus)under starvation stress
Appetite regulation in fish exhibits species-specific difference. To analyze the appetite regulation mechanism of Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus),this study employed RNA-Seq to analyze the transcrip-tome of the hypothalamus under short-term(3 days)and long-term(6 days)starvation stress. The multiple differentially expressed genes were isolated and further subjected to the KEGG analysis,GO analysis and pro-tein interaction analysis which supported that the melanocortin members play a key role in appetite regulation. In addition, the multiple hypothalamic regulatory factors including oxytocin(OX),galanin(GAL)etc.,were confirmed to be involved in appetite regulation. These results provide a preliminary understanding of the differential gene expression profile under starvation stress in tilapia.
