概括性综述了2023年全球、中国大陆及邻区和四川及邻区的地震时空强特征;分析了全球MS≥6.0 和中国大陆及邻区MS≥5.0 地震活动特点;追踪了四川及邻区地震活动特征和四川区域内近年几次强震的余震区持续余震活动情况.结果显示:全球大震和强震频次环太平洋地震带高于欧亚地震带,地震强度欧亚地震带高于环太平洋地震带,全年MS≥7.0 地震时序呈现强弱相间特征;中国大陆MS≥5.0 地震呈现西域、青藏、华北和华南Ⅰ级地块的分散活动,西域地块地震活动集中在南天山区域,青藏地块内部地震活动较周边活动偏弱,华北地块、华南地块及其边缘均发生MS≥5.0 地震;中国大陆地震活动仍是西强东弱态势,西部区域的地震强度低于 2022 年的强度,东部区域的强度高于 2022 年的强度;台湾及其附近海域的强度明显低于 2022 年的强度,频次明显低于 1900年以来的平均值;控制四川及邻区强震的巴颜喀拉和川滇 2 个Ⅱ级块体的区域地震活动强度和频次均偏弱,四川西部没有发生突出强震,仅有余震和ML4.4 震群活动,全年ML≥4.0 地震主要集中分布于华南块体的川东南区域,省内 34 次ML≥4.0 地震有 19 次分布在川东南区域,占全年地震总数的 55.88%.
Summary of Earthquake Activities in 2023
In this paper,we summarized the time-space-intensity characteristics of earthquakes in the world,Chinese Mainland and adjacent areas,Sichuan and adjacent areas in 2023.Specifically,we analyzed the global characteristics of MS≥6.0 events and the regional characteristics of MS≥5.0 events in Chinese Mainland and its neighboring regions.The seismicity pattern and the sustained aftershock activity of strong earthquakes in recent years have been tracked in Sichuan and neighboring areas.The results show 1)the global frequency of major and strong earthquakes is higher in the circum-Pacific seismic belt than in the Eurasian seismic belt.The seismic intensity of the Eurasian seismic belt is higher than that of the circum-Pacific seismic belt.The characteristics of the time series with MS≥7.0 earthquakes throughout the year(2023)show alternating strength and weakness;2)The earthquakes with MS≥5.0 in the Chinese Mainland show scattered activities in the first grade active tectonic blocks of the Xiyu,Qinghai Tibet,North China and South China.The earthquakes in the Xiyu block are concentrated in the southern Tianshan region;3)Earthquakes are weaker within the Qinghai Tibet block than that in the surrounding areas.The MS≥5.0 Earthquakes have occurred in the North China block,South China block and the edges.Seismicity in Chinese Mainland is still strong in the west and weak in the east.The seismic intensity in the western region in is lower than in 2023 that in 2022;4)The seismic intensity in the eastern region is higher in 2023 than in 2022.The seismic intensity in Taiwan and nearby sea is significantly lower in 2023 than in 2022.The frequency in Taiwan and offshore areas is markedly lower than the average of the 14 times/year since 1900.The intensity and frequency of the seismicity in the second grade active tectonic blocks of the Bayan Har and Sichuan-Yunnan,which controls strong earthquakes in Sichuan and neighboring areas are relatively weak;5)No prominent strong earthquakes occurred,only aftershocks and several earthquake swarms with ML4.4 appear in the western region of Sichuan in 2023.Earthquakes above ML4.0 are mainly concentrated in the southeastern Sichuan region of the South China block.19 out of the 34 earthquakes with ML≥4.0 within the provincial boundaries are distributed in the southeastern Sichuan region,accounting for 55.88%of the total for the year.
