Analysis of the Minimum Magnitude of Completeness for Earthquake Catalog in Dehong and Adjacent Areas in Yunnan
We studied the minimum magnitude of completeness MC in Dehong and adjacent areas with complex geological structures and a high frequent of earthquake activity, which could provide useful information for seismicity research and seismic risk evaluation.Based on the 1970-2022 earthquake catalogues in Dehong and adjacent areas,we analyzed temporal variation feature of the minimum magnitude of completeness for earthquake catalogue by using the magnitude-order number method, such as the MAXC(Maximum Curvature)and the GFT(Goodness-of-Fit Test)method. We obtained the temporal variation features of MC in the studied area. The results showed that the earthquake catalog ML≥2.6 in Dehong and adjacent areas since 1970 is more complete. The MC value was roughly ML2.3~2.6 from 1970 to 1982,ML1.9~2.6 from 1983 to 1999,ML1.3~2.2 from 2000 to 2008,ML1.1~1.8 from 2009 to 2022,respectively.The 1976 Longling earthquake at magnitude 7.3 and 7.4,the 2008 Yingjiang earthquake at magnitude 5.9,and the 2014 Yingjiang earthquake at magnitude 6.1 could cause MC to be suddenly increased.A large number of foreshocks occurred in the 2011 Yingjiang earthquake at magnitude 5.8 and Tengchong earthquake at magnitude 5.2,which might be one of the main reasons for the decrease of the MC value.
