Evaluation of Regional Differences in Scientific Research Performance Among Colleges and Universities in China
To explore the regional differences in scientific research performance among colleges and universities in China,a comprehensive analysis of both static and dynamic aspects of university scientific research performance was conducted using DEA-BBC model and the DEA-Malmquist model based on panel data from 31 provinces in China from 2018 to 2023.The results indicate a decline in the overall scientific research performance of universities in China, with western universities demonstrating higher scientific research performance than those in the eastern and central regions.Overall, the issue of intra-regional imbalance is prominent, with significant differences in scientific research performance observed between universities in the eastern and western regions.Although universities in the central region are at the lower end of the performance spectrum, the scientific research capabilities of universities within this region are relatively balanced as a whole. The pure technical efficiency has a significant impact on the scientific research performance of universities. Therefore,it is crucial to further strengthen regional collaboration, prioritize technological innovation, introduce talent, and promote the optimized development of scientific research management.
