Application of Guelph Permeameter in Determining the Soil Permeability of the Songhuaba Water Source Area in Kunming City
Objective]The aim of the study was to validate the feasibility of simulated experiments by Guelph permeameter, and to study the impacts of different land use types on the soil infiltration capac-ity in Songhuaba water source area.[Method]Soil infiltration capacity of three land use types was mea-sured by using Guelph permeameter in both lab and field experiments.[Result]Soil infiltration capac-ity decreased in the order as follows: woodland>woodland instead of slope land> slope land. Laboratory simulation has also similar result. Pearson correlation showed that water content, sand contents, bulk density and total porosity were correlated with soil infiltration capacity. The fitting effect of Kostiakov equation was the best one among the three equations noted in the study.[Conclusion]Simulated exper-iments with Guelph permeameter can well indicate soil permeability and it may be easier to control ex-perimental conditions and to observe index change process. Therefore, soil infiltration and wetting front can fully reflect soil infiltration capability.
