Effects of Biochar on the Cadmium and Lead Accumulation and Quality of Brassica chinensis L.
[Objective]To explore the effects of different proportions of biochar on cadmium(Cd)and lead(Pb)accumulation and quality of Brassica chinensis L.in Cd and Pb compound polluted soil,in order to provide a scientific basis for the safety in production of agricultural products.[Method]A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of 0%,0.5%,1%and 2%biochar on the growth, nutritional quality,Cd and Pb accumulation of Brassica chinensis L.,soil physicochemical properties and enzymes activities.[Result]After adding 1%and 2%biochar,the contents of DTPA-Cd and DTPA-Pb in soil were significantly lower than that of the control, while the soil pH,organic matter, available phosphorus and available potassium contents as well as soil enzymes activities(urease, sucrase)were significantly higher than the control. The growth and nutritional quality of Brassica chinensis L.were improved by adding biochar, with significantly higher shoot dry weight, soluble sugar content and vitamin C content.Meanwhile, the contents of Cd and Pb in Brassica chinensis L.were significantly decreased under biochar treatments, especially in the shoot, which decreased by 27.53%~71.46%and 31.00%~55.43%compared to the control,respectively.1%and 2%biochar had significant effects on the growth, quality and heavy metal content of Brassica chinensis L.,but there was no significant difference between them.[Conclusion]Biochar reduces the availability of heavy metals in soil by increasing soil pH,inhibiting the accumulation of Cd and Pb in Brassica chinensis L.,and thus improve the nutritional quality.Meanwhile, biochar promotes soil nutrient cycling, increases soil available nutrient content, and finally improves the growth and nutritional quality of Brassica chinensis L..
