Economic Agglomeration and Agro-Environmental Efficiency:Nonlinear Relationship and Spatial Spillovers
[Objective]Economic agglomeration has a dual impact on agricultural environmental effi-ciency,and the study of the relationship between economic agglomeration and agricultural environmental efficiency is of great significance for improving China's agricultural production environment and promot-ing high-quality agricultural development.[Method]Based on the panel data of 280 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2001 to 2020,this paper empirically analyzes the impact of economic agglomeration on agricultural environmental efficiency and the mechanism of its action by constructing a nonlinear model.[Result]①The impact of economic agglomeration on agricultural environmental efficiency is characterized by an inverted"U"shape, and the conclusion still holds after a series of robustness tests.②The impact of economic agglomeration on agri-environmental efficiency is more significant in areas with strong environmental regulations and small topographic relief.③Urban innova-tion capacity and rural human capital level are two channels through which economic agglomeration affects agri-environmental efficiency.④Further research finds that economic agglomeration has a posi-tive"U"-shaped impact on the spatial efficiency of agricultural environment in the neighboring areas.[Conclusion]The research in this paper provides certain policy basis and empirical references for im-proving agro-environmental efficiency.
