An Inquiry into the Food Culture of Xinjiang in Jin and Tang Dynasties Based on Archaeological Discoveries—Taking Astana Ancient Tombs as an Example
Xinjiang has had frequent ethnic activities since ancient times, and became a centre for cultural ex-changes between the East and the West because of the ancient Silk Road, which contributed to the diversity of local cultures. Many artifacts have been unearthed in the Astana Cemetery in Xinjiang, artifacts related to food and drink in the Jin and Tang dynasties, showing the lifestyle and eating habits of the people of Xinjiang in the Jin and Tang dynasties. These artifacts are not only a direct reflection of the social development and economic prosperity of the Xinjiang region in the Jin and Tang dynasties, but also demonstrate the important influence of the cultural exchanges along the Silk Road in the Jin and Tang dynasties. The study is based on the function of recording information of historical artifacts, and provides a good opportunity for academics to know the historical development of Xinjiang in the Jin and Tang dynasties and the significance and value of the Silk Road.
