Three Waves of Republican Patriotism:an Analysis of the History of Ideas
Among the contemporary theories of patriotism,republican patriotism is an important theory,which can e-ven be regarded as one of the latest developments of contemporary theories of patriotism.Republican patriotism is a kind of patriotism theory centered on"freedom",and the realization of this freedom needs a special community,namely"republic".However,both the effective maintenance of freedom and the normal operation of the republic cannot be separated from the support of"citizen virtue".Republican patriotism has a very long history,which can be divided into classical republican patriotism theory,modern republican patriotism theory,and contemporary repub-lican patriotism theory.However,republican patriotism cannot adapt to modern pluralistic society.
