Effects of famotidine as adjuvant therapy on symptoms, gastrointestinal function, and inflammation in patients with acute gastroenteritis
Objective:To study the effects of famotidine as adjuvant therapy on symptoms, gastrointestinal function, and inflammation in patients with acute gastroenteritis. Methods:Sixty patients with acute gastroenteritis admitted between August 2021 and August 2023 were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group(n=30)using a random number table method. The control group was given an intramuscular injection of metoclopramide hydrochloride 10 mg,while the observation group was given an intravenous infusion of famotidine 20 mg based on the treatment of the control group. The improvements in gastrointestinal function and symptoms were compared between the two groups. The levels of inflammatory factors, including interleukin-6(IL-6)and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)before treatment and after 3 days of treatment. The Quality of Life Scale(QOL)scores, the General Comfort Questionnaire(GCQ)scores, and clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups. Results:The improvement time of abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, serum IL-6 and hs-CRP levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of the observation group(96.67%)was higher than that of the control group(80.00%)(P<0.05).After treatment, the QOL scores and GCQ scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Famotidine as adjuvant therapy can promote relief of clinical symptoms and recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients with acute gastroenteritis, lower the levels of inflammatory factors, improve clinical efficacy, effectively improve the quality of life, and enhance comfort level.
