Mediating effect of intrinsic ability on the relationship between walking ability and fall risk in elderly people in community
Objective:To explore the mediating effect of intrinsic ability on the relationship between walking ability and fall risk in elderly people in community. Methods:From October 2022 to October 2023,786 elderly people in our community health service center were selected as subjects.General data, intrinsic ability, walking ability and fall risk were collected and assessed by general data questionnaire and intrinsic ability, walking ability and fall risk assessment scale respectively.Structural equation model was used to analyze the mediating effect of intrinsic ability on the relationship between walking ability and fall risk of elderly people in community. Results:The internal ability score of 786 elderly people is 67.75±6.73 points; The walking ability is 237.88±26.46 meters; The fall risk score is 81.85±5.19 points.Pearson correlation analysis showed that intrinsic ability was positively correlated with walking ability(P<0.05),and negatively correlated with fall risk(P<0.05),and walking ability was negatively correlated with fall risk(P<0.05).Intrinsic ability plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between walking ability and fall risk of elderly people in community, and the mediating effect accounts for 30.89%of the total effect. Conclusion:Intrinsic ability and walking ability are important factors affecting the fall risk of the elderly in the community.Intrinsic ability plays a part of mediating role between walking ability and falling risk, and the fall risk can be controlled by intervening the intrinsic ability of the elderly.
