Shangtapo Qin-Han Cemetery is located in Shangtapo Village in the southern suburb of Xi'an,on the north bank platform of the Zaohe River. Its terrain descends from north to south, which is the westward range of Fengqi tableland. From December 2019 to May 2020,Xi'an Institute of Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology conducted an archaeological excavation of the cemetery together with the School of Archaeology and Museology of Sichuan University, revealing a total of 61 tombs, among which 34 tombs were from the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty, with a high concentration in the late Qin and early Han Dynasties. These tombs are well preserved with a rich variety in shape and funerary objects as well as a clear assemblage of artifacts. In particular, potteries with stamped"Duting"inscription were unearthed from some of the tombs, which help to supplement the archaeological cultural sequence from the Warring States period to the Qin and Han Dynasties in Guanzhong area. The excavation is also of great significance for the exploring of cultural exchanges between Guanzhong and Jingxiang during the Qin and Han Dynasties and the changes of funerary customs and social organization forms around Du County.
