The microblade technology spread widely in North China during the end of the Pleistocene to the early-mid Holocene.Numerous microblade sites have been reported and studied in-depth,but little was known about the microblade technique in South China.Influenced by the traditional perspectives which are mainly focused on cobble tools, the microblade technology of South China was largely unacknowledged. Here in this paper,we reviewed the published materials about the microblade remains in South China.Compared to the ones in the northern region,a number of technological traits can be identified in southern microblade assemblages. Two points should be highlighted:the strategy of intensive use of raw materials and the production strategy to simplify the process of preparing and retouching.Based on the currently available data, the diffusion route of the microblade technique in South China is unclear.The"half-moon route",from Sichuan,Yunnan to Guangdong,is possibly one of the paths. In South China, the adopters of microblade technology inclined to be the populations who inhabited mountainous areas and adapted the broad-spectrum economic patterns. In regions with such a varied ecological niche, the microblade tools in South China could be applied to some specific resources.
