The two pieces of Dou(豆)-shaped bronze wares unearthed from Xiaotianxi Cemetery in Fuling,Chongqing were identified as lamp and Zu(俎)respectively in the brief report, while some scholars also wrote articles arguing for this viewpoint. However, after observation of the objects and examination of relevant literature, significant differences are noticed in shape and function between Zu,Bian(笾)and the Xiaotianxi bronze wares, therefore a re-discussion on their name is necessary.According to literature,Zu was sacrificial meat container and Jin(禁)was vessel holder in the pre-Qin period. The Xiaotianxi Dou-shaped bronze wares were holding bronze Dou when they were unearthed, suggesting that they were in fact Jin instead of Zu.Further analysis of their shape details indicates that the circular core on the plate surface of Xiaotianxi Dou-shaped wares is identical with the circle on the surface of Jin,both of which are designed to fix the ring foot of the utensils they carry and prevent them from sliding. With reference of the primitive celadon Jin from tomb M3 in Tunxi,Anhui Province,it can be confirmed that the Xiaotianxi Dou-shaped bronze wares are Jin rather than Zu,which were used to carry bronze Dou and served ceremonial function.
