In vitro Bacteriostatic Tests of Chinese Herbal Medicines on Pathogenic Bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila from Broad Tongue-sole Cynoglossus robustus
The diameter of inhibition zone and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of extractives of 24 Chinese herbal medicines, such as fructus chebulae and rhizoma anemarrhenae, extracted by water were determined in vitro by agar diffusion plate method and tube double dilution method in order to screen out Chinese herbal medicines with better bacteriostatic effect. The results showed that Terminalia chebula,Prunella vulgaris L,Citrus reticulata Blanco and Caesalpinia sappan Linn.had good inhibitory effect ofAeromonas hydrophila, especiallyfructus chebulae and selfheal, with the inhibition zone diameter of over 25 mm and the MIC of 31.25 mg/mL.The findings indicate that Chinese herbal medicine has certain antibacterial effects that provide theoretical basis for the future development of Chinese herbal medicine related products and treatment of diseases caused by A eromonas hydrophila.
