Relationship Between Morphological Traits and Body Weight of Chinese Ink Carp Procypris mera Lin
To investigate the relationship between morphological traits and body weight of Chinese ink carp Procypris mera Lin,body weight(Y),total length(X1),body length(X2),trunk length(X3),body depth(X4),body width(X5),head length(X6),head height(X7),eye diameter(X8),snout length(X9),caudal peduncle length(X10)and caudal peduncle depth(X11)were determined in 142 samples of 16-month-old and 83 samples of 4-month-old Chinese ink carp collected in Breeding Base of Rare and Endangered Fish of Guangxi Academy of Fishery Sciences. The main morphological traits affecting the body weight were screened using correlation analysis,through-put analysis, and multiple regression analysis, and multiple regression equations were established between morphological traits and body weight. The results showed that the coefficients of variation for all traits were found to be smaller in 16-month-old Chinese ink carp than in 4-month-old Chinese ink carp. The path analysis showed that body depth, body width, and eye diameter were the main morphological traits affecting the body weight of 16-month-old Chinese ink carp, while body depth, body width, and head height were the main morphological traits affecting the body weight of 4-month-old Chinese ink carp, with total coefficient of determination of below 0.85,and requirement for more measurements of morphological trait indicators. The multiple regression equation between morphological traits and body eight was established by multiple regression analysis:YA=-14.891+1.548X5+0.887X4-1.339X8 for 16-month-old Chinese ink carp;and YB=-3.544+0.621X5+0.238X4-0.137X7 for 4-month-old Chinese ink carp. The finding provides the data on conservation biology and basis for the selection culture of Chinese ink carp in separate ponds.
