Morphology and Histology Characteristics of Gonads of Yellowfin Tuna(Thunnus albacares)at Different Developmental Stages in South China Sea
In order to understand the gonadal development and reproductive characteristics of yellowfin tuna(Thunnus albacares)in the South China Sea,the gonadal development cycle and morphological characteristics of germ cells were investigated in the gonads with different developmental stages of 41 yellowfin tuna samples with body weight of(0.6-35.0)kg,which were collected by longline fishing in the South China Sea(17.41 ° N,110.61 ° E)from May 2021 to May 2022 by anatomical and conventional histological methods. The results showed that the yellowfin tuna was a batch asynchronous spawning fish, and had six phases of oocyte development and six stages of the ovary development:oogonial proliferation, primary oocyte growth, cortical vacuole formation, yolk granule accumulation, ovulation and degeneration. The male yellowfin tuna had typical leaflet type testis, and six stages of the developmental process:spermatogonial differentiation, spermatogonial prolifer-ative,early maturation, moderate maturation, spermiation and degeneration. This paper elucidated the morphology, characteristics of tissue structure and rules of gonads in yellowfin tuna at different developmental stages, aiming to enrich the basic information on reproductive biology of yellowfin tuna and provide scientific basis for its artificial breeding.
