Can Public Health Services Promote Social Integration of Migrant Workers?——Evidence from China Migrant Survey Data
In the process of urbanization, further promoting the social integration of migrant workers on the basis of keeping them in the city is the key to promoting the urbanization of migrant workers.Based on the 2017 China Migrants Dynamic Survey(CMDS),this paper explores a new path to achieve social integration of migrant workers from the perspective of public health services. The results show that public health services can significantly promote the social integration of migrant workers, and the promotion effect on the participation and psycho-logical integration of migrant workers in social activities is strong, and the results are still valid after a series of robustness tests.Mechanism analysis shows that public health services can promote the social integration of migrant workers by improving their health and employment quality. The analysis of heterogeneity showed that public health services had a more significant impact on the new generation of migrant workers, migrant workers with a higher education level, shorter migration time, and inter-provincial mobility.Further analysis shows that compared with publicity boards and paper publicity, individualized face-to-face consultation and online popularization of public health services have a stronger role in promoting the social integration of migrant workers. This study provides practical evidence for the positive impact of public health services on the social integration of migrant workers and provides new ideas for promoting the social integration of migrant workers and establishing a new type of urban-rural relationship between workers and peasants.
