The Impact and Heterogeneity Analysis of Gender Structure in Marriage Markets on Women's Marital Migration Distance
The impact of individual preferences,such as economic social resources,on marital migration distance has been widely recognized in studies on marital migration distance.However,as an important macro factor in the local marriage market,the impact of gender structure factor on marital migration distance is worth exploring in depth.This paper confirmed the impact of the local marriage market gender structure on the marital migration distance for Chinese women based on marriage search theory.It is found that:(1)in general,women in regions with a high sex ratio of the unmarried population have relatively shorter marital migration distance,and women are more likely to marry in closer regions.(2)However,the impact of gender structure varies among regions with different income levels,urban and rural areas,and women with different educational backgrounds.The marital migration distance for women whose registered residence is located in low-income areas,rural areas,or with lower education is more influenced by the gender structure of the marriage market.
