An Empirical Study of the Separation of Migrant Grandparent Couples——Analysis Based on Survey Data in Xiamen
Based on the sample survey data of migrant ancestors who care for their grandchildren in Xiamen, the samples of migrant grandparents with spouses were selected. These samples were divided into two groups according to whether they migrated with their couples together and whether they separated from their couples due tomigration. The basic situation of the passive separation of migrant grandparents is understood through a descriptive analysis of the group appearance as well as the reason and effect of separation for theseparated migrant grandparents with couples.Through hypothesis test and regression analysis,it is demonstrated that the separa-tion of middle-aged and elderly couples due to the need to take care of their grandchildren will inhibit the positive experience of migrant grandparents towards migration life. Also, the separation will reduce the positive feelings of the grandparents on migration life by affecting their family integration and social integration but will not increase their negative feelings on the migration life.As suggested by the individual analysis of the samples of the grandparents who separated from their couples, reducing the housework burden of migrant grandparents and strengthening the intergenerational care of their children can help reduce their negative experience of living alone. Moreover, the satisfaction of migrant grandparents with their children's families in communication and social interaction in the places of immigration is very important for enhancing their positive emotional feelings and reducing their negative emotional feelings.
