Can the Neighborhood Effect Promote Dietary Health of Residents?——An Empirical Analysis with Samples from Rural Relative Poverty Residents
Based on the data of China Family Panel Studies,this paper theoretically analyzes and empirically tests the existence and effect of the neighborhood effect on residents'dietary health from the perspective of social economics in order to investigate the impact of neighbor-hood effect on residents'dietary health and its inequality,and further discusses the mediating role of dietary return and life expectation.Results showed that:(1)there is a strong neighbor-hood effect on residents'dietary health,and it shows a significant positive promotion,the balanced diet lifestyle of neighborhood residents can drive the improvement of the dietary health level of other residents in a certain area;(2)the neighborhood effect helps to alleviate the dietary health inequality caused by the difference in economic status,and has obvious pro-poor characteristics;(3)the neighborhood effect works mainly by providing residents with prior information about a balanced diet in relation to their physical health and by enhancing their expectations for their future lives.According to the analysis results,it is suggested that the improvement of residents'dietary health and the accumulation of healthy human capital should be accelerated by paying attention to the role of neighborhood support and exemplary leadership,widely expanding the channels of the role of neighborhood effect,andstrengthening the efforts of dietary health publicity and education.
