Analysis of Deviations in Mortality Patterns between Model Life Tables and China
This paper analyzes the deviations in mortality patterns from three model life tables of Coale-Demeny,United Nations, and China Regional and China from static and dynamic perspectives based on China's population censuses and sample surveys from 1982 to 2020.The distinctions in mortality patterns between three types of model life tables and China are determined by the choice of model life tables, sex, and mortality levels, but the similarities still exist in the deviations of each model pattern from the actual pattern in the specific model life table.Coale-Demeny East and West families and United Nations General family are more consistent with Chinese male mortality pattern at high mortality levels,Coale-Demeny West family fits Chinese female mortality pattern at low mortality levels,China Regional Southwest and Central-Eastern families are the most appropriate to represent China's male and female mortality patterns at all mortality levels. The deviations of mortality decline patterns of Coale-Demeny and United Nations model life tables from China's pattern are similar, but that of different families in China Regional model life table from the actual pattern is significantly distinctive.
