The Influence of Family Status on the Development of Adolescents——Moderating Role of Siblings
The change of fertility policy highlights the role of siblings in the development of adolescents.Based on the perspective of the family system and the data of China Education Panel Survey, this paper discusses the internal mechanism of siblings'influence on the development of adolescents in the family. The study found that the impact of family status on the development of adolescents is different between the only child and non-only child.Siblings have a"buffer effect"on the development of adolescents, that is,the existence of siblings makes non-only child adolescents hardlyto obtain more"development dividends"from the improvement of family socioeconomic status,non-neglect parenting style, harmonious husband-wife relationship and close parent-child relationship, nor will they encounter more"development deficit"caused by the weak social and economic status of the family, the neglect parenting style, the non-noisy marital relationship, and the estranged parent-child relationship.Moderating effect of siblings on the development of young people is closer to"providing help in the snow",rather than"icing on the cake".This finding not only responds to social phenomena such as"the poorer, the more likely it is to have more children"and"there are conditions to have more children, but there is only one child",but also draws attention to the polarization of adolescent development that may be brought about by the trend of"fewer children".
