Population aging has become a social problem that China will have to deal with for a long time, and it is one of the important tasks in China to guarantee and realize a good standard of living for older adults and to enhance their sense of well-being.Based on China's urban-rural dichotomy and using the Chinese General Social Survey 2021(CGSS2021)database,the study integrates the Random Forest Model with the Shapley Value Decomposition and combines ordered logistic regression to analyse the importance and urban-rural differences of the factors influencing Chinese older adults's well-being.The study found that older adults'well-being was high overall, with age, marital status,self-rated health, socioeconomic status, sense of social fairness, and general trust as universal important factors of older people's well-being;residence,number of family cars, number of children, and music as special important factors of older adults in rural areas, and political outlook,Putonghua proficiency, and sports participation as special important factors of older people in urban areas. The findings provide data support for policy priorities to enhance the well-being of older adults, and theoretical guidance for differ-entiated and targeted intervention and promotion strategies for the well-being of older adults, which will help promote mental health equity in urban and rural areas and fully implement the strategy of active aging.
